What is Expert Secrets?
Expert Secrets is a digital marketing book written by Russell Brunson, and it’s basically a follow-up to his 2015 book called DotCom Secrets.
It was published in 2017 and focuses on how you can create a following for your business by making yourself an expert and crafting a message that will help change people’s lives.
If you’re not familiar with Russell Brunson, he and his business partner created a software company in 2014 called ‘Clickfunnels’.
Clickfunnels allows you to easily and quickly create sales funnels, and the company has really grown fast into a $100 million dollar business.
Now, Expert Secrets is 265 pages long, and it’s filled with examples and stories that show how Russell applied these ‘secrets’ while building up Clickfunnels.
It’s an easy read, and right now, it has a 4.7 star rating on Amazon and several positive reviews…
I don’t recommend you get it from Amazon because later in this review, I’ll share with you a better option.
Who Is The Book For?
This book is really designed to help any business owner or any person who wants to become one…
One of the main themes is that you can build a business by capitalizing on the skills you already have (even if you don’t know what they are yet)…
…and the book is particularly helpful if you sell or intend to sell information products like:
- Ebooks
- Coaching
- Consulting
- Courses
The book is also extremely helpful for affiliate marketers or business owners who want to learn how to leverage information products to grow their company….
Which, by the way, is exactly what Russell Brunson did to grow Clickfunnels to a $100 Million company without any outside funding.
It’s needless to say that Russell knows what he’s talking about…
…and no matter what type of business you have (or are trying to start), you’ll get a lot of valuable information from this book that you can go out an apply.
Expert Secrets Book Summary…
Like I mentioned before, Expert Secrets is easy to read. It’s also entertaining and very well organized, and it’s divided into 5 sections:
- Section 1: Creating Your Mass Movement
- Section 2: Creating Belief
- Section 3: Your Moral Obligation
- Section 4: The Funnels
- Section 5: What’s Next
We’ll go through and summarize each section briefly…
Section 1: Creating Your Mass Movement…
In this section, Russell discusses creating your own mass movement, which basically means creating your own audience, fans, or tribe.
This audience will include anyone who subscribes to you or looks to you as the ‘expert’ for information…
…and the idea here is to build and cultivate this audience into a mass movement.
Russell actually breaks down three elements that all mass movements have:
- A Charismatic Leader (Attractive Character)
- A Cause
- A New Opportunity
The Charismatic Leader…
Even if you don’t feel like you’re a natural born leader, Russell lays out how you can become one by following some very simple rules.
He teaches you how to develop an ‘attractive character’, which is a persona that people will identify with and want to follow…
…and he also teaches you how to be persuasive and NOT boring.
He also goes into creating a cause that your followers can get behind and a new opportunity that your target market will be interested in.
By the end of this section, you’ll know exactly who your target audience is, how to reach out to them, and what type of new opportunity they’ll be most interested in.
Section 2: Creating Belief…
In this section Russell focuses on how to create belief with your target audience in whatever it is you’re offering them…
He starts off by discussing ‘The Big Domino’…
The Big Domino is the one thing you need to convince your ideal customer that will knock down their objections and get them to buy from you…
Next, Russell moves on to explain ‘The Epiphany Bridge’…
Here he teaches you how to create an engaging story that your audience identifies with and that includes a personal ‘aha’ moment.
The point here is to try to get your audience to have that ‘aha’ moment and to get them excited to learn more from you and willing to buy from you.
Storytelling is a massive part of marketing and this part of the book lets you in on the storytelling ‘secrets’ Russell uses himself (and he’s one of the best marketers in the world).
There’s a lot more to this section, but just know that Russell really simplifies the storytelling process for you…
He lays out a few questions to go through, and the answers provide you with all the information you’ll need to make this strategy work.
Section 3: Your Moral Obligation…
The third section of Expert Secrets gets into how you can actually sell to your audience…
One of the most important parts of this section is when Russell goes over the power of a Stack Slide when you’re trying to close a sale.
A stack slide basically allows you to show your customers how much value their getting if they decide to take your offer…
… and Russell shows you how to make your offer basically irresistible to them.
Another really important part of this section is Russell’s explanation of the ‘Perfect Webinar’…
After doing Webinars for years, Russell pretty much has it down to a science, and he reveals exactly how you should structure your Webinars to close in on sales.
I think it’s important to note that a lot of what Russell teaches in this section doesn’t only apply to salesmanship through webinars…
These are powerful methods and they can be applied to any type of selling you’re focusing on, especially face-to-face sales or selling from a stage.
And the way Russell lays it all out makes it easy for beginners to understand and apply.
Section 4: The Funnels…
At this point in the book, you’ve learned how to create your charismatic leader and come up with your new opportunity…
You’ve also learned how to create belief and tell engaging stories. The next part of the process is to actually convert your audience into customers using sales funnels…
In this section, Russell goes into detail explaining how you can use different sales funnels to convert your customers, and he divides this section into the following 5 chapters:
- The Perfect Webinar Model
- The Perfect Webinar Hack
- Email Epiphany Funnels
- Epiphany Product Launch Funnels
- The Four Question Close
One of the major points emphasized in this section of the book is that the more you help others achieve their goals and make money, the more you’ll achieve your own goals and make money.
Personally, I’ve found that there’s a lot of truth to this concept.
Section 5: What’s Next…
The last section of Expert Secrets teaches you how to get traffic to your sales funnels and then how to maximize your potential earnings once you build up your following.
I found several gold nuggets in this section, and the truth is, getting traffic is super important and something that gets brushed over all the time…
So I’m really glad that Russell reveals some of his techniques here…
…because having beautiful sales funnels that have no one going to them is a pretty big bummer (I know from experience haha).
