What Exactly Is Dotcom Secrets?
DotCom Secrets is a book written by Russell Brunson revealing his internet marketing strategies…
It was published in 2015, and in my opinion, the content is still very relevant for today.
Russell designed the book to be very easy to read and easy to follow… So even though its 254 pages long…
…you’ll find that it’s a pretty engaging and fun read, with sketch-like diagrams that help you understand the major concepts.
The book is filled with stories and examples from Rusell’s own businesses, and he does a great job of laying out the ‘secrets’ that led him to his success.
At the time of this article, the book has sold over 205,000 copies, and it has a 4.5 star rating on Amazon…

Who Is Russell Brunson?
Russell Brunson is an extremely successful internet marketer…
He started his first business, selling DVDs about potato guns, while he was still in college…
…and he made his first million dollars selling products within a year of graduating.
Since that time he’s sold everything from supplements, shakes, and T-shirts to coaching, technology services, and consulting.
In October 2014, he and his business partner, Todd Dickerson, launched their sales funnel software company called Clickfunnels.
Clickfunnels has really exploded with growth since that time, and today, it’s the fastest growing non-venture backed software company in the world.
On top of that, Russell has created several products around the Clickfunnels software including books, information products, masterminds, and live events.
His trainings have helped create several millionaires who’ve become members of the Clickfunnels ‘Two Comma Club’…
…a club for people who’ve made over a million dollars through one funnel.
Needless to say, he’s one of the most innovative minds in the online marketing world, and without a doubt, he knows what he’s talking about.
What’s In The Book? (DotCom Secrets Book Summary)
As I mentioned before, the book is easy to read and very well organized. It includes 5 distinct sections:
- Section 1: Ladders And Sales Funnels
- Section 2: Your Communication Funnel
- Section 3: Learning ‘Funnelology’
- Section 4: Funnels And Scripts
- Section 5: Clickfunnels
We’ll go through a summary each section briefly…
Section 1: Ladders And Sales Funnels…
The book begins by explaining the concept of a value ladder…
A value ladder is basically a way to organize the products you’d like to offer to your ideal customer or client.
At the bottom of the ladder, you have your least expensive product… On the next step up, a more expensive product…on the next step, a product more expensive…
…and you arrange your products all the way up to your most valuable and expensive product at the top.
Now, of course, you want your customers to buy your most expensive product, but it’s really unlikely that they’ll do that if they don’t know or trust you.
So, they start by purchasing an inexpensive product from you at the bottom of the ladder…
From there, you build trust with your customer and hopefully, move them up your value ladder through the use of a sales funnel.
Of course, the book explains the strategy behind these concepts with A LOT more detail, but this summary gives you the general idea.
Section 2: Your Communication Funnel…
The next section is all about communicating with your audience (your leads), and focuses on email marketing.
One of the things Russell first explains is the concept of an ‘attractive character’…
An ‘attractive character’ is someone who the audience can relate to because of their backstory, struggles, and flaws.
It’s through this character that you communicate with your audience by emailing them.
Later in this section, Russell explains the exact type of email sequences you should be sending to your audience…
The first one is called the ‘Soap Opera Sequence’ and the following one is called the ‘Daily Seinfeld Sequence’.
I won’t spoil what exactly goes into these email marketing sequencing, but the basic idea is that you want to build trust with your audience and keep them entertained…
If they’re entertained, they’ll keep opening your emails, and you’ll have more opportunities to market to them.
All in all, I found that this section is filled with some really valuable gold nuggets!
Section 3: Learning ‘Funnelology’…
Section 3 of DotCom Secrets is all about creating and managing sales funnels…
Russell gives a ton of actionable advice and really lays out what you should be thinking about when setting up your funnel.
Early on in this section, he teaches you how to look at your competition’s funnels and completely reverse engineer them.
In addition to that, he lays out the 7 Phases of a successful funnel:
- Phase 1: Traffic Temperature
- Phase 2: Your Pre-Frame Bridge
- Phase 3: Qualify Subscribers
- Phase 4: Qualify Buyers
- Phase 5: Identify Hyperactive Buyers
- Phase 6: Age And Ascend The Relationship
- Phase 7: Change The Selling Environment
Each phase is described very clearly, and at the end of the section, you’re left feeling like you have a systematic understanding of what goes into a winning sales funnel.
Section 4: Funnels And Scripts…
In this section, Russell goes over the actual structure of sales funnels when they’re focused around different types of offers.
He describes 7 different types of funnels, which include:
- The High Ticket, Three Step Application Funnel
- The Self Liquidating Offer Funnel
- The Product Launch Funnel
- The Continuity Funnel
- The Invisible Funnel Webinar
- The Perfect Webinar Funnel
- The Two Step – Free Plus Shipping Funnel
The cool thing is that these funnels are not just theoretical… They’re the types of funnels Russell uses in his own business today.
For example, he uses the Two Step – Free Plus Shipping funnel to sell Dotcom Secrets, Expert Secrets, and other products as well.
And I think it’s really cool that you can see him implementing the things he teaches in this book in his own business.
Section 5: Clickfunnels…
The last section is about how Russell’s software company, Clickfunnels, allows you to easily implement the strategies and techniques he teaches in the book.
Clickfunnels isn’t the only funnel building software on the market, but I personally think it’s the best (it’s what I use in my business).
